Session 54: Delving once again into the deep, bug infested halls….
Janore and her companions had made their way below, descending into the deep chamber that led below the main caverns. Talks To Rocks had fallen and was in need of some healing. Between Janore’s bandaging and Valinya’s magic, he was tended to and the group began to further explore the lower levels. Janore had once again loaded her crossbow, doing what she could for defense, as she currently was suffering with a weakened connection with her diety, Algor the Stormlord.
Talks sees two corridors branching off to either side, and a little further what appears to be 2 more corridors. Up ahead, the passageway seems to slope downward, cutting off the view of the rest of the corridor. As he moves quickly down the corridor, the Kankoran accidentaly kicks a small pile of rocks that skitter all across the stone hallway, making quite a bit of racket. As Talks gets to the first intersection, he sees that two large rooms open up at either end of short corridors. To the right what looks like some sort of pedestal surrounded by that similar orange goo, and to the left it looks like a bunch of tables or benches and a large statue or alter at the end of the room.
Upon entering the intersection, the clatter of many insects could be heard. Talks To Rocks started yelling about bugs and Janore started to run. Seeker, Talks to Rocks and Gnarl all took up defensive positions and Valinya prepared more of her song-magics. Talks to Rocks commented that there may be a nest towards the back fo the chamber, and from the orange vomit gravy goo, a large beetle was charging out to attack. Janore could not see this as it was out of the magical light they were using to see in the dark with.
The Giant Beetle was spitting forth some kind of acidic spray at Seeker. As the swarm moved forward to attack the trio, Janore fell back to a safer location, trying to keep her crossbow ready to shoot the giant beetle once it came into sight.
In short time, Gnarl, Seeker and Talks To Rocks managed to crush and stamp out the bug swarm, and Valinya blasted the giant bettle with a very powerful lightning bolt as she sung in a high pitched tone. Unfortunately the creature managed to evade her first attack.
As Gnarl, Seeker and Talks finished off the swarm, Valinya tried a ball of concussive force against the large beetle, knocking it around a bit, but also shaking up some of her friends with the force of the spell, as well as weakening another bug swarm. Finally, with one more lightning spell, Valinya was able to blast the large beetle and the rest of her companions finished off the beetle swarms. Janore was able to finally relax a little bit.Everyone was winded, but Valinya especially so, as she had cast Great Haste upon herself, allowing herself to acts twice as fast, but really burned up her energy in the process. So the band took some time to rest and look around as Gnarl created a few more light-enchanted stones. As they rested, Valinya hears some more skittering sounds coming from the chamber across the way. Valinya’s light floats over to the other chamber that was across from the beetle lair. It illuminates what appear to be large stone tables or something in rows. At the far end of the room, stands a red statue of a powerfully built warrior wielding a cylinder-headed great club standing upon a pedestal. As you gaze into the room, you see another large beetle walk across the room. It seems to wander aimlessly as it passes between the rows of tables.
The group took up defensive positions and drew out ranged weapons to engage the large bettle. The large bug just seemed to keep wandering around aimlessly. Seeker made his way in to stand upon one of the 8 stone tables to get a better view of the bug. The creature made no move to act towards Seeker. However, Seeker started to complain about the room making him feel uneasy and than said he wanted to lay down and take a nap upon one of the stone slabs.
As Seeker lays down and starts to get comfortable, one of the stone statues animated, and approached the slab and raised a club like weapon above its head to smash Seeker. Thanks to quick action from Gnarl & Talks to Rocks, they managed to get Seeker out of the way before the statue smashed him. Once he was off the stone slab, the stature returned to the pedestal from where it had come from.
Seeker clearly was being affected by some kind of magic that was making him totally fatigued and sleepy.
The party than decided to return back to the upper chambers. They wanted to get to a more secure location and rest properly before going any further in this underground maze.
After resting the group decided to check out more of the other passageways and avoid the sleep chamber and large bettle.
A little further down the hallway, they get to two small alcoves about 3 feet deep in either wall. There are several stone pegs sticking out of the wall about 7 feet up. Further past that, Talks see that the corridor turns into steps that lead down. About 5 feet down the steps, water fills the passage. Talks can see that the steps continue down into the dark water. The pegs appear to be an aid like a ladder to climb out of the water chamber. As Talks to Rocks enters the water, the glowing stone lights up the water. It is clear to see the steps lead down about 20 feet then level off again.Talks swims down into the submerged corridor. He disappears past the edge of the ceiling but his light is still visible. Talks swims in a little distance and sees that the underwater chamber opens up into a larger room. Suddenly, he is slammed by an unseen force. As Talks to Rocks collapsed upon the steps, the water around the steps became turbulent and started to splash around and up the stairs. Clearly a water elemental was at work here.
Seeker pulled Talks To Rock’s limp form back to safety as Valinya prepared to use magic and Janore started to look into the pool, hand clutched around her holy symbol. She know that she had power over water, but her connection with the Stormlord was also quite weak and strained.

Session 56: Past the wind and into more tunnels.
Janore and her companions were faced with the deadly wind-trap from the enchanted stone face in the upper chambers of the cairn. The mouth of the wall spat forth a magical burst of wind and air that continued to grow in power as time went on.
After some dramatic escapes that included Valinya and Janore casting Body of Air upon themselves, as they fell down the shaft, they managed to save themselves. Janore’s equipment was not so lucky and fell to the floor near Varlad. Seeker and Talks To Rocks tumbled but managed to grap onto the magical rod and a length of chain, with Seeker catching Talks To Rocks as he fell, saving his friend from certain doom.
Eventually the gang managed to safely descend and regroup back in the main chamber with the colored lantern posts and the sarcophagus. They rested a bit and continued to turn the Sarcophagus and explore other passages while they still could. They managed to view the Red Chamber and the eerie light as well as the Indigo. One looked like an obvious lead to a trap and the other to a dead end, perhaps a decoy type of passage. The Indigo Passage and stone ceiling showed that it was a falling, crushing weight and there was also a pile of ragged clothes and crushed bones.
The party rested and took a break, eating food and such before continuing on to more searching. They also discussed recovering the other lantern that may be lost in the caverns filled with Water.
Janore continued to silently pray to Algor, hoping that eventually her magical block that is keeping her powers down, would soon be lifted.

Session 57: Many colors and the tomb worms
After the group had accessed the other passages by using the lanterns, it was decided to attempt to light them all or use light spells and see what happened when all of them were lit. As it was, the multifaceted colors from the colored lanterns lighting the caverns were near enchanting to behold.
Sure enough, the power of all of the lights seemed to cause the mouth of the giant face carved in the stone in the upper level chambers to open and reveal more places to explore.
The party once again ascended up to the wind tunnel and went forward, beyond the now ‘open’ mouth and face in the wall.
Peeking through the opening you see the following...... Through the gaping mouth at the end of the tunnel is a long, dark room with no floor. A three foot wide beam of petrified wood spans the chasm, leading straight ahead into the darkened chamber. About ten feet below the beam, countless iron spheres the size of large oranges form an irregular floor, but its impossible to tell if they represent a wholly solid surface. The two side walls are covered in a honeycomb of geometric patterns. The featureless stone ceiling extends about twenty feet from the beam.
The party would take turns walking across, but as they did so, a magical trap. A young, child like voice could be heard and was taunting the party. A door could also be found inside the area with the balls.
As they made their way across, another trap was activated and a series of fist-sized metal balls were firing forth from the walls and pelting the party members, especially Seeker, and caused him to fall from the beam to the balls below.
While in with the balls, another problem was encountered: Tomb Worms! These slug like creatures, roughly 2 feet long, swift and with clawed extensions and teeth started to attack Seeker and Gnarl and those inside the balls. Seeker is quickly overwhelmed by the creatures as he is just outnumbered. Gnarl, Talks to Rocks, Valinya and Janore rush to his aid. Valinya casts all manner of spells, Gnarl engages the worms with his rapier, and Talks as well.
Janore shot at one of the worms with her crossbow, but than found that Seeker was collapsing. She dropped down into the ball pit and called out upon Algor, knowing that she was tempting fate with her powers weakened, but desperate to aid her friend, and was able to get off a magical healing spell upon Seeker. It would prove to be just enough to get him awake and back into movement as the worms continued to surround them.
With help from Janore and Talks, Seeker is able to clamber up from the surface of the balls and back up to the ledge protruding from the backside of the stone face. Gnarl, who had leaped down to draw off some of Seekers attackers suddenly found himself overwhelmed by the strange, aggressive creatures. Once he saw Seeker get free though, he scampered back up the wall as quick as he could before sustaining any further injury. As he made it back to the beam at the far side of the room, he passed out from shock. The strange creatures continued to mill about the balls where Seeker and Gnarl had been standing, though the did not seem to be able to climb out o of the pit. They merely crawled back and forth and over each other, gnashing their powerful jaws and slashing their claws menacingly in the air. The creatures, no more than 2 feet long each, appeared to have no hind legs. They looked like hairless weasles in the front and wrinkly pink worms in the rear. Finally safe, Seeker begins to check out his numerous wounds. Though magic has healed most of them, Seeker gazes down at his chewed and mangled feet. One of his little toes has been bitten completely off! The wound is bleeding profusely but nothing a little bandaging and magical healing won't fix. Out from the darkness in the room comes the childlike, disembodied voice again, "Wow, that was amazing! I've never seen anyone stand up to the Tomb Worms like that before! Usually they just swarm on folks and chew em up! There's gotta be a dozen dead adventurers down there somewhere! You guys are amazing!"
Eventually, Valinya calls upon her magics and causes her body to radiate electricity. Her electrical form descends into the ball pit and the energy from her blasts starts to damage and kill off the worm creatures. The distraction is enough for Janore and Seeker to get to safety. Valinya continues to maneuver around and damage the worms. Gnarl’s body lay unconscious on the other side of the room.
Seeker than started telling everyone that he was “possessed” or “controlled” and the childish voice spoke out that he was trying to help the group or play with them. The voice spoke up as the group talked about leaving…
After Seeker has climbed back through the short tunnel leading back out, the others look at themselves and wonder how they are going to get Gnarls unconscious body up and out from the far side of the room where it lays unconscious in front of the metal door."Please don't leave." the voice continues, taking on a whiny tone. "I'm sorry, I really didn't mean for anyone to get hurt! The big Wolfen was making fun of me, he said I couldn't DO anything. I just had to show him that I could!" The voice then becomes quiet and faint sobbing sounds can be heard. After a few more moments the voice responds, "I'm sorry." Then in the middle of the room, a pale, shimmering light appears and slowly, the form of a young Human boy appears. The form is translucent and surrounded by a bluish glow. It floats a few feet above the central beam of the room. The boy is turned to the side, keeping one shoulder up in front of his face, though it is easy to see from this angle that the boys head hangs at a sever and awkward angle, giving the distinct impression of a broken neck. The boys hands end in long black fingernails, though he keeps trying to keep them out of view as well. "I will help you if you help me. Please help me. I want to leave this place!" Again the sounds of sobbing fill the chamber.
The ghastly specter that is the boy shambled forth, his neck at an odd, broken angle. He asked the party to bury his bones in Nesme, and that would break a curse he is under for abandoning his family in a time of need. The boys name is Allastor, and his bones are located in the bottom of the ball pit.
The group would have to figure a way down into the pit to recover the bones. And, they were also in need of rest.

Session 61: The Emporium:
The group was in the Emporium, ready to explore the 'Gallery of Science'.Several colored lanterns surround the entryway to 'Gallery of Science' A dark hallway leads further into the building, seperated from the bar room by a wall of hanging black fabric, making a dark curtain. As you move into the first room, you are greeted by a loud, jovial voice.
"Hello there ladies and gents, I am Shag Solomon, your guide through the Gallery of Science."A well dressed gentleman steps forward from a darkened corner, he is wearing a very nice suit and top hat and his face, neck and hands are all covered with long, well brushed fur. He looks like no being any of you have ever seen before. What can be seen of his facial features resembles a human, though the long body hair suggests something else.He produces a large book, "Would you please sign our guest register. Name and home. Thank you good sirs and ma'am's."As everyone is finishing signing the book, he nods and thanks them, then places the book on a shelf on the wall. He picks up a small silver bell, gives it a ring and then beckons the group to follow him.
The creature, named Shag Solom continued to show the group their tour, first meeting a blue creature named Tom Shingle.
Shag Solomon parts the next curtain of black strips and leads the party into another vaguely lit area.As you enter the chamber, a large blue shape swings down right in front of Talks. A strange humanoid form smiles with a mouth of sharp teeth and bumps on his forehead that may or may not be the beginnings of horns. The being appears to be hanging from a pole on the ceiling by his feet. He swings back and forth smiling at the group. His arms are flailing all about, wraping themselves up onto each other into knots.
It appearned that Tom is the resident contortonist. He can cram himself into a standard backpack even!Tom balls himself up and begins rolling around on the floor, back and forth between everyones legs. The group found this somewhat entertaining, and continued to move on.
Next for the group was a juggler and fire eater: Airillo Klint. They group sall a small gnome juggling balls in intricate patterns and than magically a ring of fire appeared in mid air, and the balls caught on fire. This appeared to be more of an illusionist than anything else, but yet again the band applauded the performer.
The next area Shag led them to was lit with dark candles and beads and mirrors placed all about the room. A dark, Southern Human sat on a stack of pillows in front of a silver basin of water, dressed in silken scarves and robes of bright, contrasting colors. This was Madame Chezabet, their fortune teller.
Madame Chezabet seemed to have some merit to her, and when she challenged Janore about her situation with the Stormlord, Algor, she drew a tear to her eye. Janore was still upset over her nightmares and weakened bond with her diety.
The medium challenged the party members to put their hand or fingers in the water of her seer bowl if they wanted their fortune told. Janore did such as did Seeker, and as Madame Chezabet chanted her incantations she started to shake violently and the water splashed and she exclaimed to have seen a vision. She was upset and shrieked and told the party to stay away from her.
So it was more of a disappointment for the party. So they moved on to the next act: Slazk, Tralx, and Robert, Kobold Acrobats. Three ruddy skinned Kobolds come rushing out doing flips and tumbling all over the place. They stand on each others shoulders and hop around. It was quite an impressive show, actually, and the Kobolds are all quite talented and athletic. After a the display, Shag comments on how amazing the Science of motion and movement is!
The next display was to meet Esmerelda, a two-headed cow, whom Soloman claimed was also telepathic. They band moved on to the next display, one Vadir Di’Cazzeo, Havea's very own, most talented knife thrower, and his beautiful assistant, Shalana of the Sorrowful Lands.
Shalana is a very tall (near 7 feet) and very beautiful. She has long black hair but the most prominent feature she posesses is a set of dark, ridged horns that come out of her forehead and curve back behind her ears. You also notice that her eyes sparkle just a little more than they should in the light. Janore has heard of the Kiridin Barbarians, they live to the north and west and some tribes have been known to raid Shadow Coast colonies. They are known as tough and hardy and generally choose not to interact with the societies around them much. Their lands are known as the Sorrowful Lands.Talks has heard of the Kiridin Barbarians, they live to the north and west. They are known as tough and hardy and generally choose not to interact with the societies around them much. Their lands are known as the Sorrowful Lands.
Janore & Seeker were both somewhat familiar with these people. Vadir displayed an impressive display of knife throwing hitting targets, gords being thrown into the air, and also throwing at Shalana who was next to a woden board, hitting right next to her flesh.
That part was impressive, but then Vadir threw knives that sank into Shalana’s flesh up and down both arms. Shalana than moved to show that the knives penetrated her body and pushed the blades through her arms. She did the same when Vadir threw them at her legs and than drew on her stomach with a blade, spilling the blood onto the floor. It was quite disgusting, though apparently this creature could regenerate the wound or something. Janore was appalled.
Leaving that room the group then met Orlackas, a female bugbear who was sitting on a large plush armchair with a room full of several cats.Orlackas reaches into the box and pulls out a large mouse by the tail. All of the cats begin meowing. The Bugbear tosses the mouse up into the air and catches it in her mouth.Next one of the cats leaps up onto her chest and begins pawing at her face....The Bugbear then opens her mouth and the cat crawls into it. You can see her mouth and neck bulging out as the cats tail disappears into her mouth. She does this again, swallowing another mouse and another cat climbs up and squeezes into her mouth!Janore commented: “I hate to see her cough up that hairball”, and Shag Solomon hushed Janore, telling her that if she makes Orlackas laugh, it could be disasterous for her cats. To which Janore replied: “Oh hush yourself. This stuff is creepy!”
Orlackas stands up and tosses 3 more mice into the air, catching them all and swallowing them. Three more cats climb up her body and insert themselves into her mouth, in turn.Orlackas then steps forward, careful not to step on any of the other cats that are mewing loudly now. She pulls up the front of her shirt, revealing her hairy, bluish belly....Watching closely, you can see the surface of her stomach moving about, as the cats in her stomach move around inside her.She then leans forward, puts her hands on her hips and starts making gagging and coughing sounds. After a second, she manages to cough up one of the cats. It emerges from her mouth, covered in slime and mucus. The tail of a mouse protrudes from its mouth. She repeats the process again and another cat emerges from her maw. She does this a few more times and 2 more cats come pawing their way out of her mouth. The wet cats begin cleaning themselves and Orlackas bows low, smiling as she watches Janore head for the egress.Orlackas sits back down and her cats begin snuggling with her on her lap and around her legs.
The group had moved on. Janore was appalled, disgusted and fled the room before she vomited herself. The common room at the Emporium ha3 filled up quite a bit more than when the party first arrived, but they did not see Kullen or any of his boys, nor did they see the Sheriff, Deputy or anyone else dressed as a watch memeber. Seeker: So, now what? Hang out, see what else is here on this place, or go home, or on to Lazares?Pretty much everyone here seems to be a miner, though a few folk who could be other townsfolk as well mingle about.
After their tour, the group sat down for a drink to plan their next move and hear the informationm that Valinya got out of Kullen back at the Feral Dog.
Valinya exlains that Kullen and his boys work for Balabar Smenk, one of the mine managers. They were told by him to help out a friend of his who was new to town, a creepy dude that went by the name of Flige. He had Kullen and his boys digging up graves at some of the abandonded farms around town. He wanted them to go to the nearby Nesme boneyard to get more, but they decided that too many people would notice. Kullen suspects that the guy is into necromancy. He lives at the old observatory that is just outside of town. He described directions for Valinya. The group discusses their next move over drinks at the Emporium.
Dec 11 11 2:46 PM
The group has gathered and eaten breakfast and begun planning their day, the next day after their visit to the Emporium and the Gallery of Science.
The group knew that they could be dealing with a threat that involved undead beings and was planning a cautious plan of approach.
Eventually they gather their equipment and plan on making their way to the old observatory outside of the town. It was a dreary morning, raining and very few folk were out in the weather, making the streets of Nesme rather quiet this day. You make your way through town and out toward one of the north gates near the the small Temple of Wolvenar.Five minutes north of Diamond lake, on a bluff overlooking an abandoned mine, a crumbling old observatory casts its gaze to the heavens. A wide slit bisects its domed tower, where surely a great telescope once peered into eternity....Now the place bears a dark character, like a sagging tenement broken under the weight of decades of inhabitants. A slim stairway cut into the steep hillside leads to the structures only doorway, on the side of the tower attached to a one story outbuilding....Flickering light filters through the observatories only windows on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The land surrounding the observatory is quite hilly and rocky. Just 200 feet to the west lies a circle of large standing stones, to the east lies the boarded up mouth of an abandoned mine.
The group attempted to cautiously and quietly approach the building. The new companion, a Wolfen warrior named Vargyr however, made a bit of a ruckus moving past some scrub brush. Janore winced. She was unconvinced if this wolfen was truly there to help them or perhaps a spy of the Chaos Networks.
Janore had sent Virgil, her pet Seagull to go scout out ahead, as Talks To Rocks spoke with his nature spirits. No one has been able to determine that any one had been around the observatory for any recent times.
Squirrel has not noticed any walking dead, though he has not gone too close to the building. Squirrel does not want to go any closer to the building. The observatory tower is about 40 feet tall, with about 3 levels. The top two floors have 2 windows in each side. The one story square building attached to the tower has no windows and just one door, reachable by a set of rickety looking wooden steps.Rat flat-out refuses to go with Talks to Rocks into the observatory. He says there is something there keeping him out, though he has no desire to go there anyway.
Valinya, meanwhile had activated her body of air spell and moved forth to scout inside and investigate:
Valinya sees a large room, taking up most of the 2nd floor. It is nicely decorated, though the floors and walls and ceiling are all in horrible disrepair and falling apart. There is a Human man standing over a table doing something with some small objects.
Talks to Rocks informed the rest of the group that the animals and “other smokes” are shunning the place because it smells of death. Also, it seems to have some kind of barrier that prevents the smokes from entering
As Valinya investigates, she sees: The body's chest is cut open and pinned back against the table with long needles. Shelves cluttered with piles of papers, rotting organs and instruments line either end of the operating area. Four metal and glass cylinders, each 4 feet wide and 8 feet tall, flank the short stairs. Each tank appears to be full of a thick yellow liquid, obscuring whatever else may be inside them.
A single, short skeleton stands near the table, holding a large book over its head, as if someone taller had been reading from it. The stairway rises to a wide landing and two huge wooden doors. Shot through with dark blue mold, the doors form an enormous round moon carved with a lunatic's jabbering face. Beneath the landing, an unremarkable wooden door appears to lead to a tool shed underneath the stairs.
The group continues to climb and look around. Everyone was being careful. Janore had her crossbow ready and they climbed up and open the door, realing dark and dirty room full of junk and debris. Four (4) skeletal warriors stand behind a makeshift barricade across the room. They fire crossbows at you as the door opens.
Shooting their crossbows, all for of the skeletons miss, and than they all drop their crossbows and grab other ones sitting nearby. The floor of the room is covered in broken furniture and other indiscernable debris. An open doorway leads out of the room to the right.
Seeker led the attack by hurling a throwing axe and hitting one of the skeletons. Vagyr throws a dagger, only to see it bounce off the scrappy leather armor on the skeleton.
The group lept upon the attackers, with Valinya casting Great Haste upon Seeker, Talks To Rocks smashed apart another with his staff and Janore fired her crossbow and hit one of the skeletons, scoring a critical hit!Janore’s attack knocked the skeleton off balance, and as her companions moved in, the skeletal warriors started to draw rusty looking scimitars.
It would be a very quick fight, but the skeletons were quickly dispatched and the party moved further on to investigate the old Observatory.
